Each voice was selected over a five-month period with input from professional voice actors, talent agencies and other professionals. ChatGPT currently offers five different voices: Breeze, Cove, Amber, Juniper and Skye. They are all owned by voice actors who are paid above the market rate.
The payout program will continue as long as the voices are used in OpenAI products and the real names of the actors will not be revealed. The company focused on diversity and quality of voices, and collaborated with casting professionals to create selection criteria. More than 400 applications from voice and film actors were auditioned. Five selected actors flew to San Francisco to record the voices, and OpenAI plans to add more voices to suit user interests.
The GPT-4o model, capable of sensing and generating sound, image and text, was previously introduced and will be available free of charge to all users.
